About Us

Learn to Move with Style and Grace

At The Dance Department Co., we believe dance is about so much more than learning steps. It's about discovering confidence, building character, finding your voice, and becoming part of a community that feels like family.

For more than 40 years, our studio has been a place where children throughout Midwest City and the surrounding communities have learned to dance, grow, and create lifelong memories. Originally founded by respected teacher and mentor Karen Clark, the studio became a cornerstone of the community through her passion for dance and commitment to every child who walked through the doors.

When Karen was ready to retire during the COVID-19 pandemic, she entrusted that legacy to Shelby McClure. After owning and directing a successful dance studio in Mustang for more than a decade, Shelby accepted the opportunity with one goal in mind: to honor everything that made this studio special while continuing to build a place where every child feels welcomed, valued, and inspired.

Today, that mission continues every single day.

More Than Dance

The Dance Department Co. is proud to be a place where everyone belongs. Our students come from many different schools, neighborhoods, cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. We believe those differences make us stronger. Every dancer is celebrated for exactly who they are, and every family is welcomed with open arms. There is no "perfect" dancer here. Every child has their own journey, their own strengths, and their own story—and we believe every one of those stories deserves a place on our dance floor. Whether a student dreams of performing on Broadway, dancing competitively, making their high school dance team, or simply wants a place to move, laugh, and make friends, they have a home at TDDC.

The Lessons Beyond Dance

Every class is filled with opportunities to learn life skills that extend far beyond the studio. Our students learn teamwork, communication, cooperation, responsibility, respect, perseverance, and leadership. They learn that progress comes from effort, not perfection. They learn to encourage their teammates, celebrate one another's successes, accept corrections with confidence, and understand that growth happens one step at a time. In a world that often expects instant results, we teach our dancers that meaningful accomplishments are earned through patience, dedication, and consistent effort. Perhaps most importantly, we teach our students to be kind—to their teammates, their teachers, and themselves.

Our Teaching Team

Our teaching staff brings a wide variety of backgrounds, training, and experiences to every class, creating an environment where students receive a well-rounded dance education while feeling supported and encouraged. Together, we share one philosophy: challenge students to reach their highest potential while helping them discover the joy that made them fall in love with dance in the first place. Our goal isn't simply to create great dancers. It's to help develop confident, respectful, resilient young people who carry the lessons they learn in our studio into every part of their lives.

JAZZ

TWIRLZ & TOEZ

At TDDC we offer classes for 2- 4 year olds. We offer ballet, tap and acrodance.

Twirlz & Toez sets a foundation for technique, but also is a joyful class we can

introduce the dancers to the world of dance.

BALLET

The ballet classes at our dance studio in Midwest City tap into your student's poise and grace. Whether your child dreams of a career in ballet or is just looking to express themselves, our classes will work with them. As with all of our programs, we offer dance lessons for kids of all ages and abilities.

JAZZ

Our jazz classes mix traditional dance with modern innovation. Our dance studio treats jazz dancing with proper respect while also acknowledging the power of the free expression it offers. Jazz dance lessons are perfect for dancers flexible with being both in the spotlight and in supporting roles.

MODERN/CONTEMPORARY

Modern dance is a form of contemporary theatrical and concert dance employing a special technique for developing a use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas

HIP HOP

Our hip-hop dance classes are one of the highlights of our dance studio. They are excellent for kids with a sense of rhythm who like to make up their own moves. We also like to introduce students to contemporary dance movesin these dance classes.

The traditional tap dance classes offered at our dance company are ideal for young dancers who possess a good sense of rhythm. We also offer jazz classes for those who want new and unique opportunities for expression.

TAP

LYRICAL

Whether you’re looking to learn new dance moves or hone in on your existing talent, this class is what you are looking for. The instructors are committed to giving each student attention while also moving the class forward.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Musical Theatre combines the energy of jazz, the rhythm of tap, and the art of storytelling through movement. Inspired by Broadway productions, dancers develop performance skills, stage presence, musicality, and confidence while learning choreography that brings characters and stories to life. This exciting style is perfect for dancers who love to perform and dream of shining on stage.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Whether your dancer wants to perfect a specific skill, prepare for an audition, learn a solo, build confidence, or receive one-on-one instruction, our private lessons are tailored to meet their individual goals. We offer personalized training in all dance styles, technique, flexibility, leaps and turns, acro fundamentals, musical theatre, choreography, and even pageant preparation. Whatever your dancer's aspirations, we're here to help them grow with customized instruction designed just for them.

ACROBATICS/TRICKS

Led by a dedicated team of instructors, this class will have you learning new tricks in no time. Many of our dancers love taking this class, as it gives them the opportunity to learn new movements and easily showcase their talent.
